Your Acme ProClean V12 is a precision machine running a digital motor at up to 125,000 RPM. When it's working correctly, it produces a consistent, smooth sound in Eco mode and a slightly more powerful tone in Boost. Any deviation from this — rattling, grinding, whistling, or surging — is worth investigating. This guide covers the most common unusual sounds and how to resolve them.
High-Pitched Whistling or Whining
What it sounds like: A thin, high-pitched tone, distinct from the normal motor hum. May vary in pitch when the wand is moved or flexed.
Most likely causes:
- An air leak at a connection joint (wand, floor head, or bin)
- Clogged HEPA filter forcing air to find alternate pathways
- Dustbin seal not fully seated
Fix:
- Detach and firmly re-click each connection point — each should click audibly into place.
- Inspect the bin gasket seal for debris or deformation. Clean with a damp cloth.
- Wash and dry the HEPA filter if overdue for cleaning.
Rattling or Clattering
What it sounds like: A loose, intermittent rattling — particularly noticeable at start-up or when the vacuum is moved.
Most likely causes:
- A small object (stone, coin, piece of debris) lodged in the wand or bin
- Debris in the brush bar end caps
- The dustbin not fully clicked into place
Fix:
- Empty and inspect the dustbin. Confirm it is re-clicked firmly to the main unit.
- Detach the wand and tilt it — listen or feel for a loose object. Push it clear from the wand end with a blunt rod.
- Remove the brush roll and check the end cap bearing recesses for trapped grit or stone fragments.
Grinding or Scraping
What it sounds like: A hard, abrasive sound — usually from the floor head area. Often intermittent, worsening on carpets.
Most likely causes:
- An object (thread, fabric, rubber band) caught and dragging against the brush roll
- Grit trapped between the brush roll and housing channel
Fix:
- Switch off immediately. Running the motor against resistance risks damaging the brush roll motor.
- Remove the floor head and extract the brush roll (see brush roll guide).
- Clear the obstruction and inspect the housing channel for embedded grit.
- Manually spin the brush roll to confirm it rotates freely before reinserting.
Pulsing or Surging Motor Sound
What it sounds like: The motor sound rises and falls rhythmically — like someone repeatedly partially blocking and unblocking the inlet.
Most likely cause: A partial blockage that oscillates with airflow — typically matted hair in the main unit inlet, or a bin base that is not fully clicked shut.
Fix:
- Press the bin base firmly until it clicks shut.
- Check the main unit inlet for matted debris partially covering the opening.
- Remove and reattach the wand and floor head to rule out a loose joint creating intermittent airflow disruption.
Sound Only in Boost Mode
In Boost mode, the motor runs at its maximum 125,000 RPM and naturally produces a higher-pitched, more intense sound than Eco mode. A moderate increase in pitch and volume in Boost is completely normal and not a fault.
When to Contact Support
Stop using the vacuum and contact Acme Support if:
- You hear grinding from the main unit (not the floor head) — this may indicate a motor bearing fault
- Any unusual noise persists after completing the steps above
- The noise is accompanied by burning smell, sparking, or sudden power loss
