If your Acme ProClean V12's battery isn't charging when placed on the dock, or if the charge level isn't increasing as expected, this guide will help you diagnose and resolve the issue.
Understanding the Charging Indicators
Before troubleshooting, confirm what the LED on the handle is showing:
| Pulsing amber | Charging normally — no action needed |
| Solid green | Fully charged — no action needed |
| No LED at all | No power to dock, or dock contact issue |
| Slow red flash (1 per second) | Charging fault — follow steps below |
| Fast red flash (3 per second) | Battery temperature issue — see Step 3 |
Step 1: Check the Power Outlet and Dock Cable
- Unplug the dock cable and plug a different device (e.g., phone charger) into the same outlet to confirm the outlet has power.
- If the outlet has no power, check your circuit breaker or try a different outlet.
- Inspect the dock cable for visible damage — fraying, kinks, or a damaged connector. Do not use a damaged cable.
- Ensure the cable is fully inserted into the dock port — it should sit flush with no gap.
Step 2: Clean the Charging Contacts
Oxidation, dust, or debris on the charging contacts is a common cause of intermittent or failed charging.
- Remove the vacuum from the dock.
- Inspect the two metal pins on the dock and the corresponding port on the vacuum handle.
- Clean both contact surfaces with a dry cotton swab or dry cloth. For stubborn oxidation, use a pencil eraser to gently buff the metal contacts, then wipe away the residue.
- Reseat the vacuum on the dock and observe whether the amber charging LED appears within 30 seconds.
Step 3: Battery Temperature Issues (Fast Red Flash)
Lithium-ion batteries have a safe charging temperature window of 10°C to 40°C (50°F–104°F). The charging circuit will refuse to charge outside this window to prevent battery damage or risk. This is normal behaviour.
- If the vacuum is very cold (just brought in from a cold car or garage): Leave it at room temperature for 30 minutes before attempting to charge.
- If the vacuum is hot (just used for a long session): Allow 20–30 minutes of cool-down before placing on the dock.
Once within the safe temperature range, the charging indicator will automatically switch from fast red to pulsing amber.
Step 4: Battery Health Check
After 2+ years of use, battery capacity naturally declines. Signs of end-of-life battery:
- Maximum runtime noticeably shorter than the rated 60 minutes in Eco mode (e.g., below 25–30 minutes on a full charge)
- Battery charges quickly (under 60 minutes to "full") but runs out very fast — indicating reduced total capacity
- "Battery Health" alert in the Acme app showing below 70% capacity
If your battery is within the 2-year warranty period and capacity has dropped below 70% of the original rated runtime, you are eligible for a warranty battery replacement. Contact Acme Support with your serial number and purchase date.
Step 5: Firmware Reset
In rare cases, a firmware hang can cause the charging circuit to become unresponsive. With the vacuum on the dock:
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
- The LED bar will flash all 5 segments once to confirm reset.
- Wait 2 minutes. The charging indicator should resume normal pulsing amber.
