The Acme ProClean V12 uses whole-machine HEPA filtration — every cubic centimetre of air expelled from the vacuum passes through the filter before being released. This means your HEPA filter captures not just the dust you can see, but allergens, pollen, bacteria, and fine particulates down to 0.3 microns. Keeping it clean is essential for peak suction and clean air in your home.
How Often to Clean the Filter
Wash the filter at least once a month under regular domestic use. For households with:
- Pets: every 2 weeks — pet dander and hair load the filter quickly
- Allergy sufferers: every 2 weeks to maintain full HEPA efficiency
- Light use (once weekly or less): every 6–8 weeks is sufficient
The Acme app will send a filter wash reminder based on your actual usage hours — enable notifications to stay on schedule without guessing.
Signs Your Filter Needs Cleaning Now
- Solid amber alert LED above the power button
- Noticeably reduced suction even with an empty bin and no blockages
- "Filter Alert" notification in the Acme app
- Visible grey dust coating on the filter surface
Removing the Filter
- Switch the vacuum off and remove it from the charging dock.
- Locate the filter cap at the top of the main unit — it has a direction indicator arrow printed on it.
- Twist the cap counter-clockwise until it releases (approximately a quarter turn).
- Lift the filter assembly straight out. The pre-filter and HEPA element are combined into a single cylindrical unit.
Washing the Filter
- Hold the filter under cold running water. Do not use hot water — heat degrades the HEPA membrane and voids your warranty.
- Do not use detergents, soap, or cleaning agents of any kind.
- Gently squeeze the filter body while holding it under the water flow, rotating it to rinse all surfaces.
- Continue rinsing until the water running off the filter is completely clear.
- Tap the filter lightly against the palm of your hand or the rim of the sink to dislodge any remaining loose debris.
- Shake off excess water.
Never: Use a dishwasher, microwave, oven, tumble dryer, or hair dryer to dry the filter. These all cause irreversible damage.
Drying the Filter
- Stand the filter upright in a warm, well-ventilated room.
- Allow a minimum of 24 full hours to dry completely at room temperature before reinserting.
- Before reinserting, press a clean, dry cloth gently against the filter surface — if any moisture transfers to the cloth, allow additional drying time.
Pro tip: Keep a spare filter on hand so you can install the spare while the washed filter dries. Order replacements at acmevacuums.com/accessories.
Reinserting the Filter
- Align the filter with the cap opening, ensuring it seats flat with no tilt.
- Twist the cap clockwise until you feel a firm stop and hear a click.
- Give the cap a final firm press to confirm a complete seal — a loose filter causes immediate suction loss.
When to Replace the Filter
A well-maintained filter lasts approximately 12 months with monthly washing. Replace earlier if you notice:
- Persistent suction loss after a full wash-and-dry cycle
- Visible tears, holes, or deformation in the filter media
- "Replace Filter" alert in the Acme app (triggered at 500 operating hours)
- Any signs of mould or persistent odour after washing
Genuine Acme HEPA replacement filters are available at acmevacuums.com/accessories and from all authorised Acme retailers. Always use genuine Acme filters — third-party filters may not meet HEPA H13 standard and can allow fine particles to reach the motor.
